Tips
- Choosing to buy your veggies, fruits and other products from local sources will require you to build your knowledge about what is actually available in Waterloo Region. Visit our Resources page for more information about local food production. Knowing what is available and when it is available will allow you to shift your expectations of what you eat to be reflective of what local farmers are producing.
- Because you are choosing to eat food which is produced locally, you may need to spend some time before you order figuring out what your household would like for that week depending on what is available. You may also want to investigate Recipes before you order, so that you can make sure you have the ingredients you need.
The Website
- This website works with the common internet browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Opera. It’s up to you which browser you choose but we typically suggest Firefox which is a free Open Source alternative to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. If you're using Internet Explorer, you may notice some oddities at the bottom of a few pages. We're working on this and have found that this problem doesn't exist in Firefox and Opera.
Registration
- On the right hand side of most pages of the Commons Market website, you will find the Member Login area. At the bottom of this section you will find a link to Register.
- Click on this link, read through the membership details and fill in your registration information.
- After you fill in your registration, you will be contacted to confirm your registration, provide a bit more information, and to answer any questions you may have. At this point you may pay your registration fee over the phone, or you can pay when you pick up your first order.
Placing An Order
Logging In
- Remember that you can only place an order between Friday at 12:00 noon and Monday at 12:00 noon.
- It is possible to browse through the available products without logging in. If you create an order, you will be asked for your log-in information before the order is complete. We prefer that you log in first – that way you can check out the What’s New page before you place your order.
- If you have an active account, log in as a member by entering your username and password into the box called Member Login. Uncheck the box “Remember me” if you are on a public computer. Leaving this box checked will automatically log you in next time you visit the site. If you forget your password and/or username you may use the links to retrieve them automatically or contact us.
- Once you have logged in you should be on the What’s New page. Take a look at any news, information about new items available, or updates.
Adding Products to Your Basket
- On the left hand side of your screen, you will see the Products Available list. Click on the produce category or subcategory of the item(s) you would like to purchase. You will now see a list of all items available for purchase.
- In addition to browsing the store, you can also search for a specific product by entering keywords into the Product Search field under the Products Available section.
- Click on the product you would like to purchase – you will see more information about the product you would like to purchase and the order box in which you can specify the quantity to order. For many products there will be a dropdown box that allows you to choose a specific supplier. In this case, please select one farmer and and specify the quantity that you would like to order.
Checking Out and Confirming Your Order
When you have chosen all your items, click on Show Basket & Check Out, to see what you have ordered. Review your order to be sure these are the products you want to order. You may also adjust quantities or remove products from the basket in this screen.- Proceed to check out and review your order once more. Payment is made when you pick up your order. You can pay with cash or cheque, preferably. Credit card and debit are also possible but they will include an additional charge.
- Before submitting the order, you will be asked to confirm that you agree to the Membership Understanding which you can review by following the link. By clicking on Confirm Order you will submit your order and you should receive an order confirmation email shortly.
 | Remember to bring your own bags or boxes to the pick up on Wednesdays at 43 Queen St. South. When you arrive you can check in with Rebecca or Jen on your order. They will help you find your food and make your payment.
