Ebytown Food Co-op

Ebytown Food Co-op began in 1971 as a buyer’s club – a small group of people collectively purchasing food in bulk. Over the years it has operated in many forms – a buyer’s group and as storefronts including the Waterloo Co-operative Residences and the Kitchener Famers Market.

Ebytown has now returned to its buyer’s group origins, situated within The Working Centre, and now is part of The Commons Market partnership. Members participate in organizing orders, or marketing the co-op and benefit by being able to access high quality (often organic) food and household goods at wholesale prices.

We collectively decide on the types of companies and producers we want to support. Being a part of a food co-op helps us to gain access to affordable organic food and to support local producers and distributors. By setting an example of good corporate citizenship, and by engaging in community development and food issues education, Ebytown has a unique opportunity to influence the views and buying practices of a large number of people.

Ebytown offers a limited number of staple dry goods and household products to members of The Commons Market, offering a supply of flours and grains, pasta, canned vegetables, and environmentally friendly household cleaners and personal products.
